Clean Power Call

Syntaris Power partners with Enmax for BC Hydro Call for Power

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Syntaris Power Corporation joined with HydroMax Energy Ltd. (“HydroMax”), an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of ENMAX Corporation, to submit three projects to the BC Hydro Call for Clean Power on November 25. The two companies formed Enmax Syntaris Bid Corporation for the BC Hydro Call with each party owning a 50% share of each of the three projects.

“Partnering with ENMAX is a huge step forward for our company,” says Robert Fraser, Syntaris Power’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “It helps support and validate our core project entries in the BC Hydro 2008 Call and more importantly, adds an essential dimension to achieving our future success,” adds Fraser.

ENMAX Corporation, headquartered in Calgary Alberta, is a well-known utility that is wholly-owned by the City of Calgary providing electricity, natural gas and value added services to more than half a million residential, commercial and industrial customer accounts in Alberta, Canada.

Enmax Syntaris Bid Corporation‘s three hydroelectric project proposals for British Columbia Hydro’s Call for Clean Power represent an estimated total of 104 megawatts of electricity. Kinskuch River, located 27 km east of Stewart, B.C., has unique storage capabilities that allow for more controlled delivery of electrical power. It is expected to generate approximately 76 megawatts of electricity. Culliton Creek, located near Squamish, is estimated to generate 15 megawatts of power. Maselpanik Creek, located 51 km east of Chilliwack and 35 km south of Hope, B.C., is estimated to generate 13 megawatts of electrical power in the Fraser Valley.

Syntaris Power Submits Three Projects to BC Hydro Call for Clean Power

Friday, November 28th, 2008

News Release

Vancouver, BC—Syntaris Power Corporation is pleased to announce that it has submitted three hydroelectric projects into the BC Hydro 2008 Clean Call for Power. The projects represent a total estimated capacity of approximately 104 Megawatts of electricity.

“Our top notch professional team worked hard on developing these submissions and we are confident that the quality of these projects will make them extremely attractive to BC Hydro,” says Syntaris Power President and CEO Robert Fraser. “We are also pleased with the support we have received from our First Nations partners and look forward to working together on building and commissioning these projects in the near future.”

The projects submitted to the BC Hydro Call for Clean Power are:

Kinskuch River Project, located 27 km east of Stewart, BC which is estimated to generate 76 MW of power

Maselpanik Creek Project, located 51 km east of Chilliwack and 35 km south of Hope, BC which is estimated to generate 13 MW of power in the Fraser Valley.

Culliton Creek Project, located near Squamish, which is estimated to generate 15 MW of power

These three projects combined have the potential to displace over 210,000 tonnes of CO2 annually*, equivalent to the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by over 42,000 cars per year. Development of these three hydroelectric projects will help the province reach its goal of achieving energy self-sufficiency by 2016. The BC Energy Plan requires that 90 per cent of all new electrical generation will come from clean or renewable resources.

* Based on the calculation that for every Mega-watt-hour of green power produced, 0.52 Tonnes of CO2 is offset from thermal power plants

BC Hydro Clean Power Call Issued

Monday, August 25th, 2008

BC Hydro launched its Clean Power Call today(June 11) to encourage the development of clean or renewable energy alternatives.

The Clean Power Call Request for Proposals (RFP) will target up to 5,000 gigawatt hours of clean or renewable energy per year from larger projects using proven technologies, such as hydro, wind, solar, and geothermal energy, among others. The structured RFP will be a competitive process involving independent power producers across the province.

The Clean Power Call aligns with the BC Energy Plan, which calls for 90 per cent of electricity in the province to continue to come from clean or renewable sources and for all new electricity generation projects to have zero net greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, the BC Energy Plan sets a target of electricity self-sufficiency by 2016.

To participate in the Clean Power Call, a power facility would have to meet the province’s guidelines for clean or renewable electricity. Awarded electricity purchase agreements will be filed with the British Columbia Utilities Commission.

The Clean Power Call complements the Standing Offer Program that was launched in April 2008, and the two-phase Bioenergy Call for Power, which released its Phase I RFP in February 2008. The Standing Offer Program targets smaller clean projects that generate up to 10 megawatts of power, while the Bioenergy Call for Power targets projects that utilize wood infected by the mountain pine beetle as well as other wood fibre fuel sources.

The design of the Clean Power Call RFP reflects stakeholder and First Nations engagement held in 2007.
