About Syntaris

Syntaris Power Corporation is dedicated to creating and delivering safe, clean, renewable energy. We understand that traditional sources of energy such as oil, coal and natural gas will not meet our province’s growing energy requirements in the long term.

That is why we are committed to developing sustainable waterpower projects that serve the people of British Columbia. Our company works collaboratively with First Nations, take older groups and local communities in the development of its sustainable energy projects.

“Power in Two”: Partnering to Deliver Safe, Reliable Power for our Province

As the deadline approached for the BC Hydro Clean Call for Power Syntaris Power worked diligently towards completing the final preparation work for the company’s impressive project proposals: Kinskuch River, Culliton Creek and Maselpanik Creek. It was during this time the company decided to add another strength to its overall submission by partnering with HydroMax Energy Ltd. (“HydroMax”), an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of ENMAX Corporation. The two companies formed Enmax Syntaris Bid Corporation, for the BC Hydro Call. Enmax Syntaris Bid Corporation‘s hydroelectric project proposals represent an estimated total of 104 megawatts of electricity.

“Partnering with ENMAX is a huge step forward for our company,” says Robert Fraser, Syntaris Power’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “It helps support and validate our core project entries in the BC Hydro 2008 Call and, more importantly, adds an essential dimension to achieving our future success,” adds Fraser.

ENMAX Corporation, headquartered in Calgary Alberta, is a well-known utility that is wholly-owned by the City of Calgary providing electricity, natural gas and value added services to more than half a million residential, commercial and industrial customer accounts in Alberta, Canada.

With the provincial government striving for our province to be energy self-sufficient by 2016, and for new electricity generation projects to have zero net greenhouse gas emissions, partnering not only strengthens Syntaris projects for the BC Hydro Call, but ensures the delivery of safe, reliable power to our province in the years to come.

First Nations Partnerships

Syntaris Power is committed to forging long-term relationships with First Nations groups leading to the creation of mutually beneficial business partnerships that further the development of renewable energy projects. Recently, the company signed two milestone agreements with First Nations.

The first, a Consultation Agreement, outlines a two-phase consultation process for the development of a small hydro project on Maselpanik Creek, which is located near Chilliwack. The second, a Negotiation Agreement, details a two-phase process for the development of the Kinskuch River project near Stewart.

“These two agreements are reflective of the growth of mutual trust that has been built over time between the respective First Nations groups and the company”, says Syntaris President and CEO, Robert Fraser. “We are excited to have an opportunity to work closely with these First Nations partners on developing projects that will provide long-term economic benefits and job opportunities in their local communities.”

New Name, New Brand!

dscf1454

We unveiled our company name, Syntaris Power Corporation this Fall, formally changing from Max Pacific Power Incorporated in September 2008. Part of the name change included a complete re-brand that was  debuted at the 6th Annual IPPBC Conference in October. As a double platinum sponsor with BC Hydro and the British Columbia Transmission Company (BCTC), Syntaris showcased the new brand at the company tradeshow booth in the Oxford VIP Room, hosting an “After Hours” Social, and distributing tasty smoothies in corporate branded recyclable cups to conference attendees.

“The new brand is designed to be friendly, light and environmentally focused”, says Kevin Boothroyd, Syntaris Power’s Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs. “We did away with much of the heavy descriptive language and excessive industry jargon that is commonplace in the industry and even developed our own communications style to support the brand, which we call West Coast Business Casual. We’ve received a lot of really positive feedback from investors, key stakeholders and industry leaders”, he says.

Upcoming Events

2009 has arrived and our company is gearing up for industry related events in British Columbia and beyond. Syntaris proudly sponsored the BC Power Conference, January 27th to 29th at the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver in addition to sponsoring the upcoming 6th Annual B.C. Power Summit, March 10th to 11th at the Wosk Centre for Dialogue in Vancouver.
