BC Premier Gordon Campbell, quote from the February throne speech where he reveals plans to building British Columbia’s economic strength to create jobs, stability and confidence through a number of mechanisms including transmission expansion, revenue sharing and carbon capture sequestration technology.   • During his first visit to Canada as a head of state, President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Stephen Harper agreed the United States and Canada will pursue economic recovery measures and efforts to strengthen the international financial system to counter the global economic recession. The Leaders established a senior-level U.S.-Canada Clean Energy Dialogue that will cooperate on several critical energy science and technology issues, including, expanding clean energy research and development, developing and deploying clean energy technology and building a more efficient electricity grid based on clean and renewable generation.   • “Governments around the world have committed more than $200 billion toward technologies to cut dependence on fossil fuels, which should help keep green development moving despite the global economic crunch.”

Mark Fulton, analyst for Deutsche Bank. In a report on green energy, the bank released in February, Mark Fulton, the bank’s global head of climate change investment research, told reporters that green mandates, such as requirements in U.S. states that utilities generate some of their electricity from renewable sources, and strong policies for solar power, such as feed-in tariffs in France, have been driving renewable markets in the short term, emphasizing the importance of these mandates in the current state of the markets.
