  • “Environmental organizations and citizen groups will have to work constructively to support emissions-free energy options. Modern society has no choice but to move toward carbon neutrality if we hope to preserve our well-being. Emissions-free energy production is the only means of getting there.”

Dr. Andrew Weaver, lead author for the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change weighing in on the debate over green energy and private public partnerships in BC to date in a letter to the Vancouver Sun. Link to article


  • “Claim: B.C. does not need to be electricity self-sufficient; we can easily import any new electricity we need from other jurisdictions. Fact: Government’s commitment to becoming self sufficient in electricity by 2016 will ensure BC Hydro has sufficient electricity supply to meet customer needs in the worst water years, and have a buffer supply for insurance when demand is higher than anticipated, or if expected energy efficiency savings do not materialize….”

The B.C. Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources recently released Facts on Independent Power Production to correct misleading claims about electricity generation in British Columbia. Link to facts


  • “We can remain the world’s leading importer of foreign oil, or we can become the world’s leading exporter of renewable energy.”

U.S. President Barack Obama linking the budget to the environment in a speech to entrepreneurs in the fields of energy, strongly encouraging the industry to create jobs and be inventive. Obama further added that “Your country will support you. Your president will support you.” The administration’s $787 billion stimulus package includes $39 billion for the Department of Energy and $20 billion in tax incentives for clean energy.   • “To say that all run-of-the-river projects destroy rivers and are not ‘green’ is absurd…We must not make the mistake of acting against emission-free power in the face of all the science available today.”

Tzeperoah Berman, prominent B.C. environmental leader, commenting on the backlash against the Green Economy in BC. Berman is Co-founder of ForestEthics, a non-profit environmental organization with offices in Canada, the US and Chile. Berman was one of the early architects of the forest markets initiatives and played a seminal role in the development and implementation of the campaign to protect Clayoquot Sound, the Great Bear Rainforest campaign, the Chilean initiative, the Boreal campaign and the Victoria’s Dirty Secret campaign.
